Application Information

Programs maintain their own external application systems and databases. In some (but not all) cases, students will need to wait for Cornell nomination prior to applying externally. The Office of Global Learning will provide any necessary "home school" approval or nomination to students after they secure a space through their Cornell application.

  • Please indicate if this is your preferred program or an alternate.: Students are eligible to apply to one preferred and one alternate program per application cycle.

  • Are you planning to submit an application for an Alternate Program?: You should select your alternate program carefully. Make sure it's a program you want to participate in if you secure a space in this program instead of your preferred program. Some high-interest programs are not eligible to be alternates. If you do not apply for an alternate, our office will assume you intend to stay at Cornell if you do not secure a space in your preferred program.

  • How did you learn about this opportunity?

  • Please indicate the website or a description of how you heard about this opportunity.

  • List specific courses you would like to take on your program.: If the classes are not listed for the term you plan to go abroad, list courses from the previous relevant term (for example, review current spring classes for the following spring term abroad). You may list more classes than you would actually take. You are not locked into the courses you list within this application.

  • List the primary field of study you intend to pursue while abroad (e.g. business or environmental studies or liberal arts distribution).: Use your host’s terminology for the track/degree if it is different from Cornell’s.

  • If applying to DIS, what is the title of your preferred DIS "Core Course"?: DIS admits students on a rolling basis, and course registration is available immediately upon admission into the program. Courses are filled using a “first-come, first-served” policy. Therefore, neither Cornell nor DIS can guarantee that all students will have access to their preferred Core Course.

  • If applying to DIS, what is the title of your back-up DIS Core Course?: If you cannot be placed in your preferred Core Course, DIS will consider you for this one. Your back-up Core Course does not have to be associated with the same academic Program as your preferred Core Course.
